2019 National Threat Assessment Conference for Educational Institutions
Organization(s): Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services' Virginia Center for School and Campus Safety, Maryland Center for School Safety, and U.S. Department of Education
Nov 4, 2019 — Nov 6, 2019
In light of past tragedies throughout the nation there has been an increase by federal and state legislatures, school divisions, law enforcement, and practitioners to explore practices that have the potential to prevent targeted violence. As a result, many school divisions and safety experts from across the country reached out to the Commonwealth of Virginia to learn how they established behavioral threat assessment in their legislation, developed the framework for their model policies, and implemented threat assessment in schools and campuses. With a decade of implementing threat assessment teams in institutions of higher education and K-12 public schools, they have had the opportunity to learn what works best based on research, best practice, and also from what does not work. They have established great partnerships during that process and continue to seek opportunities for improvement, sharing of resources, and better outcomes for the safety of all students and staff.
Target Audience: This conference is highly recommended for national and state leaders, school superintendents, school administrators, school mental health professionals, teachers, counselors, higher education personnel, and school/campus law enforcement officers. Both K-12 school personnel and higher education professionals are encouraged to attend.
