  • National Center on Safe Supportive Learning Environments: The National Center on Safe Supportive Learning Environments (NCSSLE) is funded by the Department of Education's Office of Safe and Healthy Students. NCSSLE offers information and technical assistance to states, districts, schools, institutions of higher education, and communities focused on improving student supports and academic enrichment. 
  • Emergency Management: Federal Agencies Could Improve Dissemination of Resources to Colleges: Working with 18 colleges and universities, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) reviewed how some institutions of higher education prepare for emergencies and how federal agencies currently support preparedness efforts. GAO also reviewed federal emergency preparedness resources, agency written responses, applicable federal laws, and federal internal control standards, and interviewed federal officials and representatives from several associations recommended by agency officials.

  • Vicarious Trauma and Self-Care: According to the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), "Vicarious trauma is an occupational challenge for people working and volunteering in the fields of victim services, law enforcement, emergency medical services, fire services, and other allied professions, due to their continuous exposure to victims of trauma and violence."
  • Managing Donations and Volunteers in Times of Disaster: Planning teams at institutions of higher education, those responsible for developing and revising emergency operations plans (EOPs) for their schools, in collaboration with their community partners, may consider including a donations and volunteer management annex for their EOPs.

  • Averted Acts of School Violence: Your Help is Needed: With support from the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services, the Police Foundation initiated the Averted School Violence Near Miss Reporting System for law enforcement officers, school officials, and mental health professionals to share their averted school violence incidents.
  • Valentine's Day Fire Safety Tips: To keep the fires burning, safely, we have compiled a few Valentine's Day cooking fire, heating, and candle safety tips courtesy of the National Fire Protection Association.

  • Upcoming HBCU-LEEA Conference: Historically Black Colleges and Universities - Law Enforcement Executives and Administrators training conferences and network of professionals support policing specifically in the higher education environment and focus considerable time and energy on engaging minority students.
  • Sexual Assault of College Students with Disabilities: On January 30, 2018 the National Council on Disability, an independent federal agency charged with advising the president, Congress, and other federal agencies regarding policies, programs, practices, and procedures that affect people with disabilities, released the report: Not on the Radar: Sexual Assault of College Students with Disabilities.
